Biography:
Immanuel Ness is Professor of Political Science at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, United States and Senior Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg. His research is on labor and social movements in contemporary globalized capitalism. He is author and editor of numerous books on labour and worker struggles including an eight volume international encyclopedia on protest and revolution.
When Ness isn't lecturing students in New York, he travels to cities in the global south to help build anti-capitalist networks among the most marginalized segments of society. Recently, he was a lead organizer in a demonstration that commemorated the three year anniversary of the Marikana massacre at the South African consulate in New York City on 16 August 2015.
Discussants: Peter Alexander (University of Johannesburg) and Vishwas Satgar (Witwatersrand University).
